A Philadelphia boxer accused of assaulting a uniformed city police officer hours after he won his bout was arraigned in municipal court this morning and is now facing 200,000 dollars cash bail bond.
Gabriel Rosado, 25, is accused of splitting open the lip of Officer Franco Sydnor when the officer tried to get the junior middleweight and five men with him to leave Bally’s Atlantic City hours after he won a bout there. Rosado’s entourage included Eliezer Morales, 25, a three-year veteran with the Philadelphia Police Department.
Luna Bail Bonds in California is amazed at the size of this bail and we feel that this matter is blown way out of proportion. A spokeswoman with the department confirmed there is an ongoing internal investigation into Morales’ involvement, and said a brief news release would be issued. Morales identified himself as a police officer, but did not display a badge or gun, said Sgt. Monica McMenamin, spokeswoman for the Atlantic City Police Department. The bail bonds San Jose office of Luna Bail Bonds has not seen 200,000 cash bail for such an offense before.
The case will now be forwarded to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, which will then decide whether the assault is severe enough to go before a grand jury for possible indictment, or be sent back to municipal court for simple assault, Atlantic City Prosecutor Jonathan Diego said.
A bail hearing also will likely be scheduled in Atlantic County Superior Court.
All six appeared separately via video from the Atlantic County Justice Facility before Municipal Court Judge Bruce Weekes.
Rosado is currently jailed on $200,000 full cash bail.
Both Sydnor – who needed stitches – and Rosado were taken to the hospital after the altercation, McMenamin said. Rosado’s mugshot shows him with his left eye blackened, but it was not immediately clear whether that was from the boxing match or the fight after.
The group allegedly told Sydnor they were going to beat him up. He called for backup, but a fight then ensued. Casino security aided in the arrests and now he is stuck facing 200,000 dollars cash bai.
Also charged were Felix Hernandez, 26; Jonathan Matos, 26; Raul Morales, 26, and Daniel Rosado, 22, who is related to the boxer, but it was unclear exactly how.
Their bails are set at $50,000 per charge. This is a high price to pay for a drunken bar fight don’t you think. Gabriel Rosado and crew, call us at Luna Bail Bonds in San Jose. Doesn’t matter where you are. We will get the bail bonds to get you out.
